Coming 2024
Certification Program
The curriculum consists of three parts:
During the instructor-led sessions, practitioners will receive online training for working with clients who present with trauma. The sessions cover topics such as the principles and safety of a trauma-aware practice, crisis management, individual bias, cognitive dissonance, generational trauma, including understanding limitations within the scope of mental health and ethical standards of care. Students will engage in case studies, mapping exercises, and ethical trauma-informed sales to further develop their skills and knowledge.
The self-directed study involves working through the Understanding Trauma Workbook, which focuses on healing through post-traumatic growth. The six modules cover various topics, including trauma history, symptoms and effects, coping mechanisms, boundaries, and post-traumatic growth. With the inclusion of somatic body break exercises, resource journaling, and reflective activities, students develop a deeper understanding of their own trauma and equip them with tools before applying trauma-aware principles with clients.
Upon completion of the instructor-led sessions, each practitioner will be required to design and lead their own 45-60 minute online workshop that demonstrates their understanding and application of trauma-aware principles, language, and safety. These sessions will be open to peer review and self-evaluation to allow practitioners to practice self-regulation during feedback, guidance, or suggestions of improvement.

Trauma Aware Practitioner certification through MIND YOUR HEART ACADEMY
70% of adults experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. 20% of people who experience a traumatic event will develop PTSD
Trauma awareness helps you recognize that challenging behaviors or reactions from clients may stem from underlying trauma rather than deliberate choices.
A trauma-aware approach helps practitioners avoid unintentionally re-traumatizing individuals who have experienced trauma.
Nearly 50 percent of trauma survivors can experience post-traumatic growth after a traumatic event.
Fifteen years ago, when my complex trauma surfaced, my life underwent a profound transformation. What seemed like the end of everything I knew turned out to be just the beginning.
Having received diagnoses of mental illness and being told by numerous mental health professionals that recovery was unlikely due to the severity of my trauma, something stirred within me.
In that moment, I faced a choice: to abide by the conventional standards of care, relying solely on talk therapy and medication without any expectation of complete healing, or to defy those limitations and explore a radical path.
I chose the radical path. Now, after fifteen years, I find myself educating health and wellness practitioners on trauma-aware principles and their practical applications that defy industry standards. What started as a personal journey toward reclaiming my well-being, blossomed into a career bridging the uninformed gap between therapists and the coaching/wellness industry.
Without comprehending the foundations of how our bodies communicate with us and why certain behavioral patterns persist, we will continue perpetuating those cycles in our own lives and in the lives of our clients. We are interconnected within this collective, and the sooner we educate ourselves about the impact of trauma/ emotional injuries and how they manifest within us, the sooner we can begin the healing process.
This journey has led me to embrace the concept of post-traumatic growth. Whether you work as a healer, coach, or alternative practitioner, you are involved in your clients' mental health. It is crucial to understand how to regulate yourself alongside your clients, promoting harm reduction and sustainable success for everyone involved.
The Trauma Aware Practitioner Certification offers more than just foundational growth within your practice; it takes healing and recovery to the next level. Being trauma aware is a way of life that fosters discernment, personal empowerment, compassion, and lasting recovery.
Not only will this trauma aware certification up-level your career, but you might just notice a shift in all areas of your life.

I first met Lea on Instagram and found her wisdom, humour and candor to be a beautiful light that shone during a very dark time. I initially signed up for her Screw Coping workshop. I immediately felt at ease by her grace, passion and support for each one of us as we waded through some heavy waters of emotion and trauma. It was there that I started to feel how it could be to truly change the narrative of a past that felt buried in my bones. We continued after the workshop with 1:1 Sessions. They became the catalyst for changing the trajectory of my life, my marriage and my relationship with my children.
The Trauma Certification has been another layer of leaning into living my souls purpose. The content was taught in bite sized pieces which we then applied and observed in the weeks between our next class session together. Lea is a fantastic teacher who’s passion for Trauma Awareness Education comes through tenfold as she guides you through the modules. This has been the springboard to me moving provinces, opening my own holistic healing practice, teaching in the schools and completing previously unfinished courses. Every piece Lea brought to our class has a place in how we heal and how we navigate our way back to the light when life feels too much. The opportunity to expand one’s life through this kind of heart led holistic learning is unparalleled.
I highly encourage anyone who is curious about it to reach out and have a conversation with Lea.
P.S. I also love that Lea drops F bombs. She is all that and a bag of chips with a side of dip!"

This course was amazing and the amount of knowledge I walked away with was incredible. I now feel so much more confident talking to my patients who have experienced trauma and I don’t worry about saying the wrong thing. I was always so worried about re triggering them or sometimes I just truly didn’t know how to respond because it was different trauma then what I had experienced. I now have so much more knowledge and understanding about trauma. It’s way more complex then I truly realized. I’m so grateful I was able to learn from Lea. Not only is she a beautiful human inside and out but she’s extremely knowledgeable when it comes to trauma. Her whole heart is in this program and you can tell she truly loves what she does. I can’t wait to keep learning from Lea, she’s been an amazing mentor. If you’re wanting to learn more about trauma I highly recommend Lea and her programs. Not only will it help you personally but it will help you professionally too."
